Intersection of Change

Elder C.W. Harris

Founder

A life-long resident of the Sandtown-Winchester community, Elder Harris has been a long-time activist for the community. He pastored Newborn Community of Faith Church from 1982 and in 1996 established Newborn Holistic Ministries, now renamed as Intersection of Change, to provide programming to address community needs. In recent years he has continued to cultivate community programming with initiatives that have included urban farming and services for ex-offenders.  He remains active as member of the board of directors and advocate for the community!

Todd Marcus

Executive Director & Co-Founder

Todd is a community activist, jazz musician, and resident of our Sandtown-Winchester community since 1997. As executive director and co-founder of Intersection of Change he supports the work of our Martha’s Place, Jubilee Arts, and Strength to Love II programs and holds a degree in urban studies from Rutgers University. Originally from New Jersey, he came to the community as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in 1995 and never left. As a musician, his work as a bass clarinetist and composer includes leading ensembles from 2-10 musicians and often incorporates Middle Eastern influences from his Egyptian heritage.

Amelia F. Harris

Co-Founder

Amelia is a cofounder of Intersection of Change, a woman of faith, compassion and love who seeks to live out the meaning of being a servant-leader. Raised in Baltimore, she received her AA Degree at Baltimore City Community College as well as her BA and MA degrees in Biblical Studies from North Carolina College of Theology. She retired from Baltimore City’s Central Payroll and Department of Law divisions in 1995 to work with her husband & community activist Elder C.W. Harris where she helped in starting a health center in the community and then Martha’s Place. She is a member of CCDA, Sandtown-Winchester, a former Board Chair of New Song Community Learning Center and Board Secretary for CUTS.  She loves to travel and is known among her community as ‘Momma’.

Reese Jones

Administrative Assistant/Volunteer Coordinator

Baltimore born & bred educator and creative, Reese has been in connection with the Baltimore Art Community since 2016. Starting as a co-facilitator of Baltimore’s first LGBTQIA open mic and moving on to collaborate with many different local artists & entrepreneurs, in radio, performance, music & business. Reese’s love for the Baltimore Art Community aided in the birthing of her very own entrepreneurial endeavors; Modeling & Blogging Platform in conjunction with Spiritual & Wellness Consultation, providing guidance through life’s obstacles, trauma, & relationships for healing.

Program Director

With over 15 years of experience in the social service field, Jasper is passionate about helping others from all walks of life through counseling, mentorship, program development and improvement. Born and raised in the Carolinas, he has spent most of his professional life in the Maryland and Washington, D.C.area.  He earned a B.A. in Sociology from Claflin University, Orangeburg, S.C. and earned his masters in Social Work from Howard University.  Outside of work Jasper enjoys time with his family, listening to music, and horseback riding.

Sherrie Todd

Addictions Counselor

Sherrie has been in the field of alcohol and drug counseling since 1989. She received a masters in Adult Education and Counseling in 1997 and was licensed and credentialed in counseling by the State of Maryland in 1999. She has worked in all fields of substance abuse services from abstinence-based care and medication assisted services to co-occurring treatment services. She is also employed as a licensed therapist at MPB Group, Inc. in Columbia, Maryland.

brittney London

Program Coordinator

Brittney is a multidisciplinary movement artist, creative, fitness instructor, and energy worker dedicated to fostering community and healing spaces. Her passion for service and wellness has been a guiding force throughout her career including a transformative five-year tenure with the Maryland State Department of Housing. During this time, Brittney honed her ability to provide resources, guidance, love, mindfulness, and healing to those in need.

A graduate of UMBC with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Brittney is also the founder of a holistic wellness business that emphasizes overall well-being through fitness and bodywork.  Her journey reflects her unwavering commitment to serving her community and promoting holistic health.

Ashley black assets yates

Program Director

Ashley Black Assets Yates is a Mississippi born and Baltimore bred soul, funk and indie songstress. She is an alumna of Coppin State University with her degree in Social Work and musical performance. In the stead of practicing as a social worker she feels called to the task of healing Baltimore through song and simple gatherings with family. Yates defines family as the people who choose you good, bad or indifferent. Derived of a gathering she began holding in her living room, Yates started The Living Room Social in the Fall of 2016 and will celebrate its 5th year with performances marking her continuous contributions to her arts community. Her latest contribution is the creation of She Is Music:101 and We Are Music:101, an intro to music, mindfulness and entrepreneurship curriculum developed by Yates from her experience as a teaching artist.

Genifer Fraser

Program Manager

Genifer is a community artist and educator who uses a multitude of mediums and expressive colors to create paintings, installations, and immersive experiences. She has always sought out ways to marry her passion for the arts and affinity for learning with conscious social engagement.  In 2021, she earned her MFA in Community Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art and completed two terms in the Community Art Collaborative AmeriCorps Program as the Community Artist in Residence at Port Discovery Children’s Museum.  She hopes to continue to expand her craft, pushing the themes of her work with the goals of meaningful social engagement and empathy building in mind.

Jazz Kearse

Youth in Business Program Manager

Jazz is a multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Baltimore. Whether through photography, drawing, writing, fashion or other mediums, his main focus is to empower the Black Man and Black Woman. His goals are to promote uplift in our communities, encourage unapologetic authenticity in our displays of life, and showcase the victories that shine through our struggles. Jazz is a member of one of the first graduating classes of Youth in Business and a staunch advocate of giving back and paying things forward, “pulling as you climb.” His role in the program now exists as a Program Assistant and Alumni Mentor, aiding in overall management while also being in direct assistance to current youth.

Anaya Fraser

Artist in Residence

Anaya studies at  Community College of Baltimore County and loves to do art including Digital and Traditional illustration work.  An alumni of Youth in Business at Jubilee Arts she enjoyed learning about how to work as a team to make a final product and how to be an entrepreneur. Her experience exposed how art works in the real world across various professions.  She is working to be a freelance illustrator and an activist to help anyone who is dealing with the unfairness that the world gives to people.

Youth in Business Sales Coordinator

A versatile artist from Baltimore, Nate boasts a diverse artistic background as a poet, music producer, songwriter, creative director, filmmaker, author and curator. Renowned for his poetry productions, including the esteemed Charm City Slam, he brings together nationally ranked and amateur poets, fostering a space for authentic poetry experiences. With two notable short films under his belt, Baltimore Magazine honored  himas Best Filmmaker of Baltimore in 2023. He currently sits as the Outreach Coordinator for the Black Arts District and his book, Anticipational Love Poems, a sobering rumination of love, desire, and conflict is currently available everywhere books are sold.

Strength to Love II

Jonathan Wirth

Program Director/Farm Manager

A Baltimore native, Jon has worked on and managed urban and rural farms, controlled environment hydroponic systems, school and non profit gardens and taught self designed curricula on many topics in field and greenhouse systems.  His agriculture career began harvesting pumpkins for University of Maryland Extension variety trials at the Wye Research Center in 2005 and he is beyond excited to be growing produce in his hometown.  He holds a BA in philosophy and spends his non farm time reading. soliciting coffee recommendations, foraging for mushrooms and creating tasty meals with friends and family.

JOHN KIDWELL

Farm Staff

John is a native son of the city of Baltimore.  John and his wife are the parents to five children.  John’s roots run deep with ancestry deriving from the Black Belt of Georgia.  He has worked for years in landscaping and is a perfectionist in relation to land beautification.  John believes hard work and focus are the recipe for success.

SHAE MCCOY

Farm Staff

Shae is a photojournalist and author who was born, raised, and still resides in west Baltimore.  She started her journalism career in 2013 and her photography career in 2016.  Her work allows her to be involved with the community and she has collaborated with Voices of 21217 and No Boundaries Coalition as a teaching photographer. She published her first book, West Baltimore Ruins, in 2021 which artistically highlights blight in west Baltimore and serves as an educational text.  Part of Shae’s mission is to be part of securing a better future for Baltimore’s Black communities and residents.
